Huawei HarmonyOS Next launch date announced

After years of development, Huawei’s HarmonyOS Next will officially debut on October 22, alongside the announcement of the Nova 13 series. This milestone marks a transformation in Huawei’s software strategy: the company is abandoning the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Android app support, preferring to develop the operating system entirely on its own.

The developer version of HarmonyOS Next was released last summer, and since then, Huawei’s software team has built a robust ecosystem of more than 10,000 apps and services for users. While the new OS retains the familiar HarmonyOS look and feel, it is built on a completely self-developed microkernel based on the open-source OpenHarmony kernel, which eliminates the possibility of running Android code.
