Blender is developing a full-fledged iPad app

The Blender team has announced the development of an iPad version of the popular 3D editor. The project is in its early stages, but it’s already known that the app will have full touch support and will be customized to meet the needs of artists working on tablets.
The first version will focus on sculpting and basic modeling
According to the developers on the official blog, the first build will focus on sculpting and object manipulation features. Further integration of tools such as Grease Pencil and Storyboarding is planned.
The current interface mockups show a single-window workspace with priority on usable screen space. Default menus are hidden, and the familiar Tool Settings panel has been replaced with stylus-adapted floating panels. Contextual controls and quick accesses make the interface as tablet-friendly as possible.
Adapting the interface for touch control is a key challenge
The project is aimed at the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil, but Blender is considering similar versions for the Microsoft Surface, Huawei MatePad, and Wacom MovinkPad. Targeted features include multitouch gesture support, integration with AirDrop and iCloud, and a new input processing system.
Some interface improvements – such as a Quick Favorites editor, interactive overlays with tooltips, and icons in side tabs – will be available not only on tablets but also in the desktop version.
Public Demo – at SIGGRAPH 2025
Blender plans to hold the first live demonstration of the technology at the SIGGRAPH 2025 conference in Vancouver. In addition, there will be meetups and workshops at Blender HQ and the Blender conference later in the year.
The developers emphasize that the project is at an early stage and no specific release date has been announced yet. However, the team is actively looking for people with iOS and tablet development experience to accelerate progress.
