Apple has released macOS 15.5 beta 2 – with no notable new features

Apple continues its testing cycle for the next update to its desktop operating system. This week, the company released a second beta version of macOS Sequoia 15.5 for developers. Public access to the test build is not yet available, and the system itself – like the previous beta – shows almost no visible changes.
The update appears to be “technical” rather than custom
macOS 15.5 promises to be a significant milestone ahead of the upcoming unveiling of macOS 16 in June, but so far there are no features in the new builds to pique the interest of the general public.
Apple previously released macOS 15.4, which didn’t include all of the expected new features from iOS and iPadOS. In particular, it lacked features like Priority Notifications and Recipes in the News app, even though those features were announced for the entire ecosystem.
The new beta 2 also doesn’t contain these or any other notable innovations, at least at first glance. Rather, the current testing phase is likely focused on bug fixes and internal optimizations rather than user features.

All eyes on WWDC 2025 and macOS 16
It can’t be ruled out that Apple is deliberately limiting the amount of innovation in macOS 15.5 to focus on the next major release. It’s expected that macOS 16 will be unveiled at WWDC 2025 in June, and is rumored to feature updated system design and expanded support for neural networking features.
So macOS 15.5 may remain a “transitional” update — with minimal changes and a focus on preparing for the next big phase of the platform’s development.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on future builds and will let you know if there are any changes in the second beta or subsequent versions.
