OpenAI is preparing ‘Connectors’, a new feature to deeply integrate ChatGPT with Google Drive and Slack

The OpenAI company plans to expand the capabilities of ChatGPT by adding deep integration with cloud services. While the AI can already analyze files downloaded from Google Drive and OneDrive, a new system called ‘Connectors’ will allow the AI to work directly with data without downloading.
This is reported by TechCrunch, which gained access to an internal OpenAI document.
What are ‘Connectors’ and how will it change the way ChatGPT works?”
In contrast to the current implementation, where ChatGPT analyzes uploaded files, the new feature will allow real-time interaction with data. For example, the user will be able to specify the command:
- “Summarize the document that [colleague’s name] sent me yesterday”
- “What did my colleagues discuss in Slack today?”
The feature will initially appear in beta for ChatGPT Team subscribers, and only for Google Drive and Slack. However, OpenAI may add support for Microsoft SharePoint and Box in the future.
How will OpenAI protect data privacy?
OpenAI assures that ‘Connectors’ will not use synchronized files to train AI, and access permissions will be strictly enforced.
- ChatGPT will not be able to view files or messages to which the user does not have access.
- Administrators will be able to limit which Google Drive files and Slack feeds are synchronized with ChatGPT.
- The AI will not be able to analyze private messages in Slack, or data from Google Sheets and Excel.

When to expect an official announcement?
It’s not yet known when OpenAI will officially unveil ‘Connectors’, but it’s likely that the feature won’t be available to regular ChatGPT users anytime soon.
The move, however, shows that OpenAI is betting on a business audience in an effort to turn ChatGPT into a enterprise data tool.
