Luma AI launches Dream Machine 1.6 video generator with support for camera movements

AI video generators are evolving rapidly, offering increasingly realistic results, but their use is often limited by a lack of control precision. Most modern AI-based video generators allow users to enter text cues or upload static images that are then converted into animations. However, the resulting clips often look unexpected and can include unrealistic or strange movements. Luma AI startup Luma AI, known for its innovations in video generation, has unveiled a new Dream Machine 1.6, adding more fine-tuning for users.
A new Dream Machine 1.6 is now available.
New camera motion controls in Dream Machine 1.6
Dream Machine 1.6 offers users 12 different camera movements that can be set when entering a text prompt in the generation bar on the site. Among them:
- Pull Out (Pull Out)
- Pan Left (Pan Left)
- Panorama Right (Pan Right)
- Orbit Left (Orbit Left)
- Orbit Right (Orbit Right)
- Crane Up (Crane Up)
- Crane Down (Crane Down)
- Move Left (Move Left)
- Move Right (Move Right)
- Move Up (Move Up)
- Move Down (Move Down)
- Push In
To use these movements, users need to type the word “camera” at the beginning of the prompt, and a drop-down menu will appear with the available options. Luma AI has also added small 3D animations for each command to visualize how the movement will look in the generated video.
Animations for each command are also available.
First user feedback: significant improvement in control
Early users of Dream Machine 1.6 are responding favorably to the new camera motion control features. AI video creator Christopher Fryant wrote in a private message on X: “Dream Machine 1.6 is explicitly customized with specific phrases (e.g. camera push in, camera orbit left), which helps since there are usually multiple ways to describe the same camera movement. Knowing the exact phrases saves a lot of guesswork.” He also noted that the range and strength of camera movements has improved markedly, allowing for more dynamic results.

Another AI creator, Alex Patrascu, commented on the update as “top stuff!”. The introduction of these camera movements emphasizes the ongoing feature race between the leading AI video generator vendors.
Competition with other AI video generators
The addition of camera movements to Dream Machine 1.6 comes shortly after the release of version 1.5, which promised better and more realistic video generation. This new feature creates direct competition with Runway and their Gen-2 model, which added Multi-Motion Brush features earlier this year. Industry observers have also noticed that Runway plans to add similar features to their latest and most realistic model, the Gen-3 Alpha Turbo, which is considered by many to be the “gold standard” of quality.
The future of AI-generated video and recommendations for businesses
.
With the explosion of AI video generators and the growth of their functionality, Dream Machine 1.6 offers users more precise control and higher quality visualization, approaching what a traditional director can achieve in far less time and money. Businesses looking to equip their teams with advanced tools for internal and external video content may consider Dream Machine 1.6 as a promising option.
