Top 10 best action movie remakes of all time

The history of action movies is replete with classic films, including some that were made quite some time ago. The action movie remake is not too common unlike other genres, but it’s not that rare either. Some of these movies retain the same title as their predecessors, while others — do not. As a result, it becomes more difficult to figure out exactly what the creators are adapting.

And it’s hard to know what the creators are adapting.

While original action movies — are great, today we bring you a look at the 10 best action movie remakes ever made.

While the original action movies — are great, today we bring you a look at the 10 best action movie remakes ever made.

Train to Yuma (2007)

action movie

One of several remakes of westerns to make this list, “Train to Yuma” is a reminder of how exciting the genre can be. Christian Bale stars as a hapless rancher trying to prove to his family that he’s brave and courageous. His character, Dan Evans, accompanies a dangerous criminal played by Russell Crowe to a railroad station while the criminal’s men try to steal him away.

The movie “Train to Yuma” is directed by James Mangold and features the precision for which Mangold is so famous, as well as several great scenes in which Bale and Crowe have a conversation around a campfire.

The Insomniac (2002)

action movie

In Christopher Nolan’s remake of the Norwegian film of the same name, “Insomnia,” Al Pacino plays the role of a Los Angeles detective who finds himself in a small Alaskan town investigating the murder of a teenage girl. The investigation deprives the detective of sleep and peace of mind, and he begins to track the killer around the clock.

Although it’s one of Nolan’s most straightforward films, “Insomnia” grabs the audience’s full attention thanks to Pacino, Robin Williams and Hilary Swank, all of whom are superbly cast.

The film’s plotting is very good.

Scarface (1983)

action movie

Brian de Palma’s “Scarface,” adapted from the classic 1930s gangster movie, is far more graphic and excessive than its predecessor. Starring Tony Montana — Al Pacino, and the movie follows his rise through the ranks of the Miami drug trade until he begins to control nearly all the cocaine coming into the city.

The movie is about how he rises through the ranks of the Miami drug trade until he begins to control nearly all the cocaine coming into the city.

As trouble thickens around him, Montana realizes that luck can’t be on his side forever. “Scarface” — is a long, loud movie that deserves to be seen by everyone at least once.

Dead Man’s Daybreak (2004)

action movie

Zack Snyder’s movies aren’t everyone’s favorite, but even his haters can’t deny that “Dawn of the Dead” turned out to be pretty energetic. A remake of George Romero’s film of the same name, Snyder’s “Dawn of the Dead” is about a group of zombie apocalypse survivors who seek refuge in a shopping mall. As the group tries to bond and survive, tensions rise, leading to a rather bloody finale.

The film’s plotline is a bit of a mess.

Something (1982)

action movie

The book on which The Thing is based is great, but John Carpenter’s movie didn’t just stay in history. The film, about a team at a remote Arctic research center who are wiped out one by one by an alien that can look like anything it kills, — is a paranoid thriller.

Thanks to an unforgettable cast, a paranoid idea and one of Carpenter’s best scripts, there are few movies that hook you all the way through like “The Thing.”

And it’s one of Carpenter’s best.

The Warlock (1977)

action movie

Perhaps one of the last famous films on this list, “The Sorcerer” is beloved by everyone who has seen it. The movie is about four men who are on the run and living in South America. After it is revealed why each of them ended up in South America, they team up to transport a dangerous cargo through the South American jungle.

They are the four men who have been on the run for years.

This journey takes the lives of several of them, dangerous not only because of the enemies they meet along the way, but also because of the jungle itself. Though director William Friedkin would disagree, this movie seems to be based at least in part on 1953’s “Revenge of Fear,” and it’s not inferior in any way.

And it’s not the least bit inferior.

Dune (2021)

action movie

David Lynch’s “Dune” movie isn’t as bad as you might have heard, but it certainly rushes the plot, trying to adapt a fairly sweeping novel in such a short amount of time. When Denis Villeneuve was given the chance to adapt the material, he wisely divided the novel into several parts so as not to rush the events of such a large-scale universe.

Here’s the thing.

The first part tells the story of Paul Atreides as his family moves to the desert planet of Arrakis amidst galactic intrigue. After his family is betrayed, Paul must prove he can survive and avenge his father. “Dune” — is a rare, beautifully crafted and told against the backdrop of epic events.

Iron Grip (2010)

action movie

It’s hard to remake a John Wayne classic, but the Coen brothers may have managed to surpass the 1969 original when they made the movie “Iron Grip.” The movie tells the story of a young girl who hires a marshal to track down the man who killed her father. During their journey together, a friendship develops between the two. With one of the Coens’ best scripts and Jeff Bridges’ career best performance, this movie is truly a masterpiece. Not to be overlooked is the fact that the movie stars Hailee Steinfeld.

The movie is a masterpiece.

The Clash (1995)

action movie

“The Clash” — is a remake of Michael Mann’s “Made in L.A.,” which was made for television in the 1980s. That version didn’t feature Robert De Niro or Al Pacino. De Niro portrays a professional thief, and Pacino plays a veteran cop tasked with tracking him down.

The movie’s title is “The Thief.

While these two are playing cat and mouse all over Los Angeles, director Michael Mann gives us one of the greatest scenes in movie history — a bank robbery gone wrong. That, and the iconic diner scene between De Niro and Pacino, makes “The Clash” an all-time classic.

The Clash.

Ocean’s Eleven Friends (2001)

action movie

Perhaps the most entertaining movie on this list, “Ocean’s Eleven” — it’s a remake of the Frank Sinatra movie of the same name. In this version, Danny Ocean, fresh out of prison, gathers his old crew to rob a casino run by a man who is dating his former lover.

The movie is about a man who is dating his former lover.

“Ocean’s Eleven” features a truly stellar cast. and it has to be said, that only works to the movie’s advantage. Plus, Steven Soderbergh’s work is top-notch. Whether you’re watching the movie for the first time or the hundredth time, there’s always something to love about this perfect heist movie.
