How to change the Camera Control button assignment on iPhone 17

By default, the Camera Control button on iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 launches the Camera, takes pictures or starts recording videos. But you can change its function in the settings to launch the Code Scanner or Magnifier instead of the camera, or turn it off altogether.
Start Code Scanner
If you often work with QR codes, it’s more convenient to assign a separate app to the button Code Scanner.
- Open Settings
- Scroll down and select Camera
- Press Camera Control
- Check Code Scanner
Now when you click the button, the scanner will open immediately, which automatically recognizes QR codes and opens the link or shows the text.

Loop Launch
The app Loupe helps you magnify small text or objects in low light. It’s pre-installed on all iPhones.
- Go to Settings → Camera → Camera Control
- Select Loupe
The button will open the Loupe, and the zoom is adjusted by a «pinch» gesture on the screen.
Full button disable
If you often accidentally press Camera Control or prefer to use the volume buttons to take pictures, you can disable it.
- Go to Settings
- Open the Universal Access section.
- Find the Physical and Motor Skills block, select Camera Control
- Set the switch to Off
In this menu you can also adjust the pressure sensitivity if you decide to keep the button active.
