Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: news, price and more

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: news, price and more

By 2024, Samsung will unveil its next series of foldable devices — it’s only a matter of time. These should be the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.

But what does Samsung have in store for the Galaxy Z Fold 6? Here’s everything we know: pricing, specs, design, and more.

What we know about the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: release date

Based on the Galaxy Z Fold’s release history, we should expect the next generation of Samsung’s convertible in the summer.

For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 was released on August 27, 2021. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 was released on August 25, 2022, and the latest Galaxy Z Fold 5 arrived on August 11, 2023.

Till then it looks like we might see the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a little before August this year. According to a report from SamMobile, the next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in early July 2024. Signs point to the second week of the month, and Galaxy Unpacked events typically take place on Wednesdays, suggesting July 10 as the likely announcement date.

Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be unveiled in the second week of the month.

The reason for the earlier-than-usual release date is that Samsung may want to take advantage of marketing around the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, which begin July 26. The Galaxy Unpacked event could also take place in Paris this year. At least, that’s what The Bell reports.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: price

Foldable devices have never been very affordable, with prices typically hovering around $1,800. For example, the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 starts at $1,800 for the base model (12GB/256GB) and goes up from there, with the 512GB going for $1,920 and the 1TB version — $2,160.

The price of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a very affordable device.

Things could be different this year, however, as two different Galaxy Z Fold 6 models are possible. Rumors suggest that we may see a more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 6 «Ultra» and the base model Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be «cheaper». There were rumors that Samsung might release a «cheaper» variant of the Fold 6 FE, but a recent report from The Elec has revealed that the company is abandoning the «cheaper» variant of the Fold 6. It was originally thought that the base model of the Fold 6 would be released without S Pen support, but now it’s likely that it won’t be released at all.

Another report from The Elec has revealed that the Fold 6 FE variant will be released without S Pen support.

This could mean we’ll see a lower starting price for the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6, with the Ultra variant possibly costing $1,800 or more. If that’s the case, the regular Z Fold 6 could theoretically hit shelves for $1,600 or a little less.

Theoretically, the regular Z Fold 6 could be available for $1,600 or a little less.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Design

A recent leak by Thinborne, a US case maker, reveals that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may end up looking more like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The CAD render shows a more angular design with sharper edges and a wider cover screen, which is mostly in line with previous leaks. The render also shows the traditional triple camera and slimmer side edges.

The render also shows a traditional triple camera and thinner side edges.

One of the problems with the Galaxy Z Fold 3-5 was the aspect ratio of the cover display, which was either liked or disliked. But this year, Samsung may make some changes to that issue with the introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6

According to insiders, Samsung may change the aspect ratio of the cover display. Another leak source suggests that the inner and outer displays will be larger than its predecessors.

Another leak suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s inner and outer displays will be bigger than its predecessors.

Samsung

Another leak from IceUniverse seems to confirm this. They’ve gotten their hands on screen protectors for the Z Fold 6 that show that the external display will be wider, but not by as much as previously rumored. Most likely, the outer display will be 60.2mm wide compared to the Fold 5’s 57mm. The corners of the screen protector also appear to be sharper, again more reminiscent of the S24 Ultra’s design than the Fold 5.

The S24 Ultra’s design will be wider, but not as wide as the Fold 5’s.

An earlier leak from Yogesh Brar also claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s Galaxy Z cover display could be 6.4 inches. The current Z Fold 5 cover display is 6.2 inches, so the Z Fold 6 could be a bit wider with a 20:9 aspect ratio rather than the 23.1:9 as the Z Fold 5.

An earlier leak from Yogesh Brar also claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 cover display could be 6.4 inches.

If the cover display is slightly larger, the internal display will be affected as well. The current aspect ratio of the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s internal display is 5:6, but the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be more square —1.08:1.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5’s internal display is 5:6, but the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could be more square — 1.08:1.

On February 28, leaker @OnLeaks, in conjunction with SmartPrix, shared some renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 design. Judging from these renders, it still has a 6.2-inch display on the lid, a 7.6-inch internal display, and measures 153.5mm by 132.5mm by 6.1mm when unfolded. This makes it slightly shorter and wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, the OnLeaks render contains another interesting piece: the overall bezel of the phone. It looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 series will have a frame with flat edges and sharper corners, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 series will have a bezel with flat edges and sharper corners, like the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Chun Bhai leak also confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 may be wider, but is thinner and lighter — just 11mm when folded.

Samsung

This seems to confirm another recent leak from IceUniverse, which showed the possible dimensions of the Z Fold 6 with a unfolded thickness of 5.6 mm, folded thickness — 12.1 mm and a weight of 239 grams. However, IceUniverse contradicts @Onleaks and claims that while the internal screen will be 7.6 inches diagonal and have a 7:6 aspect ratio, the external screen will be 6.3 inches diagonal and have a 22:9 aspect ratio. That puts the Fold 6 right between the Pixel Fold (5.8mm unfolded, 12.1mm folded) and the OnePlus Open (5.8mm unfolded, 11.7mm folded).

At the same time, the Fold 6 will have a 6.3-inch screen and a 22:9 aspect ratio.

Looking at all these reports, the display sizes seem a bit inconsistent, but the IceUniverse has been pretty solid so far and, unlike other sources, seems to have gotten its hands on a screen protector, which gives more weight to the size and aspect ratio. However, given the report that there may also be a «Ultra» version, it’s possible that it will have a larger external display.

The IceUniverse is also the only one that appears to have a larger external display.

Android Headlines reports that a Samsung phone with model number SM-F958N has been spotted. For those who don’t know, the number «8» at the end of a model usually indicates an Ultra version of a Samsung phone. Such was the case with the S24 Ultra, which got the model number SM-S928B.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any additional details about the Z Fold 6 Ultra at this time, other than the fact that this will be the first time Samsung will introduce an Ultra model in its lineup of flip phones.

Samsung

According to an initial report from analyst Ross Young, the Z Fold 6 is expected to hit the market in dark blue, light pink, and silver color variants. A later update from Young states that the dark blue color is now called Navy and the silver — Silver Shadow. Finally, the phone will also get Crafted black and white colorways. So buyers will get a total of five color options for the Z Fold 6 and seven for the Z Flip 6.

The phone likely won’t have an S Pen slot, but that could change with the possibility of a more expensive Ultra version.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: specifications

Samsung launched the S24 lineup, which includes the S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra, in late January. These phones are powered by Qualcomm’s latest chip — Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.

It’s safe to assume that Samsung will introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip into the Galaxy Z Fold 6 series as well. The Galaxy Z Fold typically gets an annual chip update, and since the S24 series already uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Z Fold and Z Flip are likely to get it as well.

And since the S24 series already uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Z Fold and Z Flip are likely to get it as well.

Samsung

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip is the latest and greatest for Android phones, and Qualcomm is once again partnering with Samsung to make these chips optimized for Galaxy devices. That means they’re lightly overclocked for optimal performance and power efficiency.

Analyst Ross Yang said that the Fold 6 and Flip 6 will have the same storage options as the Fold 5: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. No word yet on RAM, but we’re sure to hear more details soon.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: cameras

.

When it comes to cameras, information is conflicting here as well.

Revegnus initially claimed, regarding the aspect ratio, that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would use the same image sensor as the Z Fold 5. But a later leak he published claims that Samsung could use a camera sensor like the one in the S24 Ultra. That could mean an upgrade to a 200MP main camera.

An update to the main camera could mean an upgrade to a 200MP camera.

Once again, these leaks are contradictory, but they could also be true if Samsung is going to release a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra. The Ultra variant could get a 200MP camera, while the base version will get the same cameras as the Z Fold 5.

Of course, that’s not true.

Samsung

The GalaxyClub report doesn’t confirm the rumored 200MP main camera, but suggests that the Z Fold 6 will feature a 50MP main lens, just like the regular S24. Yogesh Brar noted that the camera kit could be similar to the Z Fold 5 with a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

Of course, the Z Fold 6 will have a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: battery life

There aren’t many leaks about the battery that will be in the Galaxy Z Fold 6, but we do have a little bit of information. Currently, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 4,400mAh battery that provides 25W of wired, 15W of wireless, and 4.5W of reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is currently equipped with a 4,400mAh battery that provides 25W of wired, 15W of wireless, and 4.5W of reverse wireless charging.

It looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature a slightly larger 4,600mAh battery. And when combined with the power efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that was evident in the S24 series, battery life should look pretty good. No word on charging speed, however, but we can assume it’ll be the same as its predecessor.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s battery life should look pretty good.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: software and updates

Samsung

It’s safe to assume that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will come with Android 14 with One UI 6.1 shell. Since Samsung also launched its Galaxy AI toolkit with artificial intelligence support in S24, there’s a good chance that these features will be available in Galaxy Z Fold 6 as well.

Beginning with the S24 series, Samsung promises seven years of Android updates for its phones. That means that if the Z Fold 6 comes with Android 14, there’s a good chance it could be upgraded to Android 21. Of course, since it’s a convertible, the durability level isn’t quite the same as standard phones like the S24 lineup. Nevertheless, long-term software support should be pretty solid.

So far, it’s a good bet that you’ll be able to upgrade to Android 14.
