Series Split: everything you need to know about season two

In February 2022, viewers discovered the mysterious world of Lumon Industries — the sci-fi drama “Separation” on Apple TV+. At Lumon, several employees undergo a separation procedure — a medical procedure that separates memories of work from other memories. Employees who have undergone this procedure (“internal”) cannot remember anything about themselves once they leave work. In effect, such employees are living two different lives.

Accordingly, such employees are living two different lives.

The first season tells the story of Mark Scout (Adam Scott) and his coworkers, who have all been laid off. When a new employee named Helly (Britt Lower) joins the company, Mark begins to question Lumon’s motives, which may or may not be sinister. The first season premiere received universal critical acclaim and 14 Emmy Award nominations. Season two is on its way. Here’s everything we know so far.

Second Season Plot

Most of the plot details of season two are being kept secret. Apple’s season two logline reads, “Mark and his friends learn what terrible consequences a trifling handling of the separation can lead to, leading them into further trouble.”

But Stiller told Variety that fans can expect the second season to be about the budding relationship between Mark and Hallie.

So far, Stiller has told Variety.

“Over the course of the season, a bond will develop between Mark and Hallie, and on the outside, Mark will be trying to get over the death of his wife — and then we find out his wife is still alive,” — Stiller said. “To put him in a position where we start rooting for him and Hallie, but now we also want to root for Outside Mark to find his wife. It’s an interesting juxtaposition and conflict that we’re going to see in season two.”

In April 2023, Puck’s Matthew Belloni reported that the second season of “Split” had been “agonizing for months over costly problems, including scrapped scripts and terrible showrunners who don’t talk to each other.” Belloni wrote that creator Dan Erickson and his co-showrunner Mark Friedman didn’t work well together. Friedman was going to leave the show after the first season, but Ben Stiller, the executive producer and director, convinced him to stay.

“It didn’t work, there were problems with the scripts, and Apple — disappointed and embarrassed that it had gone down the wrong path, but looking at the series as a hit and an awards magnet — talked about seasons 3 and 4,” — Belloni writes. Stiller has hired House of Cards creator Beau Willimon to work on the second season. Willimon reportedly ended up working on “the second half of the second season.”
