The best single-player games for Nintendo Switch. Part 3

In this third installment of our review, we conclude our exploration of the best single-player games for Nintendo Switch. These exciting projects let you immerse yourself in a variety of worlds and stories without the need for a constant internet connection or the company of friends. From adventure RPGs to puzzle games and platformers, you’ll find games in a variety of genres. Each of them will be a great choice for those who prefer to spend time playing alone.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker — an unusual platformer for Nintendo Switch
In Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo created several diorama-style levels that allowed you to play as Captain Toad. Fans loved the idea so much that it became a standalone game in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. If you’re tired of standard 3D platformers and want to try something new, this game is for you. The twist is that Captain Toad can’t jump, which leads to interesting and well-designed levels that exude creativity. It’s also stunningly cute, with silly but cool character designs. The boss battles are interesting, the music is catchy, and, like the Mario games, Treasure Tracker — is just a good game.
And it’s a good game.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
When it comes to 2.5D platformers, you can’t do better than Donkey Kong Country on Nintendo Switch. It offers a variety of Kong family members to choose from, each with unique abilities. The levels themselves are beautiful: oceans, snowy mountains, jungles, and everything in between. Hidden in these levels are secrets that are sure to be found — especially since special items can be accessed through them. This gives you an incentive to be attentive when passing each level and plenty of reasons to play it again.

In the Nintendo Switch version, you also get access to a Funky character that can be played in New Funky Mode. This makes it easier by giving you extra health and a double jump. Everything from the visuals to the sounds and platforming is done to a high standard. We especially like that the music is tied to each of the stages, making them individualized. In short, this game —s a total joy, and it’s even better on Nintendo Switch.”

Persona 5 Royal
Of all the Nintendo Switch games on this list, Persona 5 — is the most stylish, with a vibrant color palette and bright, eye-catching animations that never get old. In addition to its incredible aesthetics, Persona 5 has a wild plot that isn’t afraid to get extremely dark. A group of high school students travel to a supernatural realm called the Metavieworld, which is home to evil enemies. Once in the Meta Universe, the game becomes a turn-based dungeon crawler. Outside of the Meta Universe, it’s more of a social simulator where players must befriend other NPCs and spend time with them. Personas feel like Pokémon, each with different abilities, and they can be collected. Persona 5 — is an incredible experience from start to finish.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
What Nintendo Switch game list would be complete without The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? This game took a lot of risks and went against the traditional Zelda format. For many, this may be a negative aspect, but for most, it was the reboot the series sorely needed. The game features a huge open world with a variety of biomes, from a desert to a huge area full of lava, beaches, swamps, and anything else you can think of. It’s also one of the most open-ended approaches to design, giving you the freedom to do things in the order you choose.
It’s also one of the most open-ended in the series.

If you want, you can head straight to the game’s final boss from the start, though we don’t recommend it. It’s a game full of wonder and discovery and consists of many unexpected moments. What’s even more impressive is that you can climb on almost any surface, which expands the possibilities for exploration. Instead of dungeons, Breath of the Wild has 120 sanctuaries, each corresponding to a specific game theme. There’s a reason why this game is still considered one of the best on Switch to this day.
And it’s still one of the best on Switch.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
While Breath of the Wild is certainly a great game for the Nintendo Switch, it’s hard to ignore its sequel — Tears of the Kingdom. This game took the incredible formula of its predecessor and turned it upside down, improving Breath of the Wild in almost every way. Despite sharing a common map with the previous installment, Nintendo made the game interesting by allowing players to explore the skies above and the depths below. In addition, Tears of the Kingdom features a powerful building system that allows players to create almost anything they want, allowing them to find endless ways to accomplish each task. It’s an impressive experience that will be remembered for years to come.

Metroid Dread
The Metroid series has always been an underrated series, which is why it’s so surprising that Nintendo has finally released Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch — a game that’s been 19 years in the making. In this 2.5D platformer, bounty hunter Samus Aran explores the planet ZDR to study a parasite. Throughout the game, Samus unlocks new abilities and battles deadly enemies in one of the most addictive gameplay sequences ever. In addition to the incredibly fun yet challenging gameplay, Dread has a great atmosphere that evokes a sense of dread throughout the game.

Pikmin 4
Pikmin 4 — the latest Nintendo Switch game on this list, with unique gameplay that sets it apart from Nintendo’s heavy hitters. It’s a real-time strategy game in which you’ll control an army of pikmin — small, plant-like alien creatures with various abilities. It’s a quirky, charming adventure that really rewards and encourages exploration. Each stage is densely packed with little things to discover, and thanks to the Metroidvania elements, the game offers plenty of reasons to revisit old stages to uncover new secrets.

Hades
Roguelike games are in vogue today, but few do it as well as Hades. This frenetic isometric game has to be played to realize how it nails the formula that fans of the genre just can’t get away from. Virtually endless replayability, a vibrant art style and a surprisingly fantastic story — this is something roguelike fans definitely shouldn’t miss on Nintendo Switch.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

The Paper Mario franchise has been delighting Nintendo players for decades, and while each installment has been good in its own way, most fans agree that Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is the peak of the series. The remake for Nintendo Switch only confirms this, as it features a host of quality of life improvements and visual upgrades that make this beloved RPG even more fun than before. Whether you’ve played the original or are playing it for the first time, the charm and humor presented here will make you smile.
