A new Bloomberg article talks about new health tracking features coming to the next-generation smart watch. It’s said that the Apple Watch Series 10 will provide blood pressure tracking and sleep apnea monitoring to offer its users a more comprehensive health profile.

Apple also hopes to introduce non-invasive blood glucose monitoring in future watches to detect pre-diabetic conditions. The readings won’t be medical. Rather, they will be aimed at displaying trends in users’ blood sugar levels and issuing a warning if they enter a pre-diabetic state.
Apple is also hoping to introduce a new device to monitor blood glucose levels in the future.
Apple’s approach will be based on short-wave infrared absorption spectroscopy, which passes light through the user’s skin between blood vessels and cells, and then reads the reflected light to help calculate the concentration of glucose in the bloodstream.
The Bloomberg article also details some of the early days of Apple Watch development, which began at the end of Steve Jobs’ tenure as CEO. Jobs reportedly directed several senior executives to begin work on a non-invasive blood glucose monitor. Apple then developed a startup called Avolonte Health, which worked to bring this feature to the Apple Watch Series 1. But, as we know, nothing came of it.
