OnePlus finally has a foldable —meet the Open. It’s a great first attempt, and it’s a shorter and wider folding «book» style design that makes for a much more comfortable operation. The Open is based on the just-announced Oppo Find N3, but thanks to that phone’s superior hardware, it’s expanding into new markets around the world.

When closed, the OnePlus Open features a 6.31-inch Super Fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED display with a resolution of 2484×1116, a dynamic refresh rate of 10-120Hz and an aspect ratio close to the traditional 20:9. Panel brightness reaches 1,400 nits in typical mode and 2,800 nits in peak mode. Inside the Open is a 7.82-inch 2440×2268 Flexi-fluid LTPO 3.0 AMOLED display with a dynamic refresh rate of 1-120Hz, an aspect ratio of 1.0758:1 and the same outstanding peak brightness.

OnePlus Open is available in Voyager Black (black) with faux leather trim on the back or Emerald Dusk (green) with a glass finish, but European buyers will only get the latter variant for unclear reasons. The black model weighs 239 g and the green — 245 g. Both models are lighter than the 253-gram Galaxy Z Fold5. In addition, the Open is equipped with a classic notification slider. The smartphone has five cameras with Hasselblad technology all around.

The main camera on the back is Sony’s new 48-megapixel LYTIA-T808 sensor with «pixel stack». It measures 1/1.43″ and above it is an optically stabilized 24mm f/1.7 lens. The so-called LYTIA T808 sensor uses dual-layer transistor technology — essentially a redesigned pixel architecture that promises better light sensitivity. The ultra-wide camera features a 48MP 1/2″ sensor with a 14mm f/2.2 lens and autofocus. The telephoto camera has a 64MP 1/2″ sensor with a 3x 70mm f/2.6 stabilized lens. There are also two selfie cameras — 20-MP on the inside and 32-MP on the outside display.

OnePlus Open

OnePlus Open features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of storage. The foldable device is powered by a 4,805mAh battery with 67W charging support. According to the company, charging time from 1% to 100% is 42 minutes, and run time — more than a day.

When you unfold the Open, you’re greeted by the OnePlus Canvas, which was designed from the ground up for multitasking. The company says 95% of major apps support the expanded display, and the active window size in a multi-window setup can be resized to your liking. Up to three windows can be used on the screen at any time — both vertically and horizontally.

At the same time, the company said, it’s also possible to use the Canvas Canvas display in both vertical and horizontal positions.

OnePlus Open is available in a 16/512GB memory configuration, priced at €1,799.
