Gothic 1 remake scheduled for June 5, 2026 – new trailer drops

After years of anticipation, we finally have a release date for the Gothic 1 remake. The announcement came with a fresh trailer showcasing an overhauled combat system, enhanced animations, and cinematic story scenes.

Fans have been waiting for official news since 2019, and now the wait is over. On February 12, THQ Nordic unveiled the trailer and confirmed that Gothic 1 Remake will launch on June 5, 2026. The game will release simultaneously on PC (via Steam and GOG), as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Currently, there are no plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 version.

The nearly three-minute trailer highlights revamped gameplay, new combat animations, cinematic cutscenes, and a variety of enemies. The story stays true to the original: in the kingdom of Myrtana, prisoners are forced to work in mines under a magical barrier, but the spell spirals out of control, plunging the isolated colony into chaos. This remake is built from scratch to preserve the original game’s atmosphere and spirit, while bringing its technology and mechanics up to modern standards. Developers promise refined combat, smarter NPCs, detailed quests, and expanded movement options.

The community response has been overwhelmingly positive. Comments under the trailer overflow with nostalgia, excitement, and emotional reactions-many fans calling this a “homecoming.” Following the closure of Piranha Bytes, the studio behind the original Gothic, Alkimia Interactive’s remake is seen as a beacon of hope for reviving this cult RPG series. Pre-orders for Gothic 1 Remake are already available on platforms like Amazon, priced around $60 for all supported systems.
