Oppo Reno 16 to feature Dimensity 8500 chipset and 200MP main camera
The first details about the Oppo Reno 16 lineup have surfaced just months after the Reno 15 series launched in China last November, following the brand’s usual six-month update cycle.
- Smartphones entering testing phase in China with the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 processor
- Main camera boasting a 200MP sensor, accompanied by a 50MP periscope telephoto lens
- Expected launch targeted for May 2026
Renowned insider Digital Chat Station revealed that the Oppo Reno 16 series has entered the testing stage in China. This typically means the hardware specifications are mostly locked in, even if the public unveiling is still weeks away. Sticking to its usual schedule, Oppo’s new lineup could debut around May.
Expected specifications
The Reno 16 lineup is expected to continue with flat displays offered in multiple sizes. The Reno 15 series includes a compact 6.32-inch model and a larger 6.78-inch variant, and Oppo will likely stick to these screen dimensions for the Reno 16 as well.
All Reno 16 models should feature a 200MP main camera paired with a 50MP periscope telephoto lens. Although the megapixel count hasn’t changed from the Reno 15 and Reno 15 Pro, Oppo might introduce a newer camera sensor this time around.
Under the hood, the new phones will run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 chipset. Leaked renders show a metal frame with LIPO battery technology and uniform bezels all around. Oppo aims to keep the Reno series ultra-thin and lightweight, prioritizing comfort and everyday usability over raw power.
Timing and official word
None of these details have been confirmed officially yet, and Oppo has not commented on the leaks. Still, with testing underway and a planned mid-year launch, the Reno 16 series likely won’t stay under wraps for much longer.
Oppo traditionally refreshes its Reno lineup about every six months, so hearing about the next generation a few months after its predecessor’s release fits perfectly with the expected timeline.
