OnePlus Open: leaked renders

Earlier this month, OnePlus kicked off its campaign to build hype around the Open with a commercial that showed the device from some, but not all, angles, and hid what appeared to be a huge camera island on its back.

OnePlus has been trying to build hype around the Open with a commercial that showed the device from some, but not all, angles, as well as hiding what appeared to be a huge camera island on its back panel.

Today, an insider has brought us a ton of leaked renders of the upcoming foldable smartphone that leave no doubt, showing off every detail. Indeed, there’s a giant camera island on the back.

According to the renders, the OnePlus Open will be offered in two color options — black faux leather and green glass. The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which makes sense given rumors that it would launch as early as this month. Just a few days after that, however, Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and that’s going to put Open in an awkward position.

The more we learn from this leak is the price in the United States — $1,699, which is only $100 less than the price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. Thus, it’s impossible to put the Open in a more affordable place in the market to mitigate the use of a chipset that will almost immediately be obsolete.

Anyways, the OnePlus Open will come with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage, a 6.31-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch BOE flexible main screen. The official announcement will take place on October 19. According to previous rumors, the smartphone will feature a 48 MP main camera, a 48 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 64 MP camera with 3x optical zoom.

The phone will be launched in the US and Europe at least, but not in Germany due to parent company Oppo’s patent dispute with Nokia in that country.
