Galaxy S27 Ultra camera: first details about the new sensor

First information about the Galaxy S27 series indicates a noticeable change in the camera of the older model. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra reportedly won’t get any major hardware upgrades, the Galaxy S27 Ultra, on the other hand, could move to a new main camera sensor and overall be an important step in the evolution of the lineup’s photo modules.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra will reportedly feature a new ISOCELL HP6 main sensor. It’s a 200-megapixel sensor with a 1/1.3-inch optical format, making it comparable in size to the ISOCELL HP2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It’s claimed that the new sensor will get updated image processing technologies, which should have a positive impact on photo and video quality.

Besides the main camera, the company is expected to upgrade the ultra-wide-angle module as well. An upgrade to the mid telephoto lens is also long overdue. The Galaxy S26 Ultra uses a 10 or 12MP sensor with triple optical zoom, and in the case of the Galaxy S27 Ultra, Samsung may move to a 50MP or even 200MP sensor for this focal length range.

One of the other improvements being considered for the Galaxy S27 Ultra include support for 8K video shooting at 60fps, a larger sensor for the periscopic camera with fivex optical zoom, and a square sensor for the front camera. These changes have the potential to affect both the quality of the footage and new usage scenarios.
