Samsung is preparing a new generation of cameras under the brand DeepPix

Samsung may be working on an entirely new family of camera sensors. The company has applied to register the Samsung DeepPix trademark, indicating a possible departure from the familiar ISOCELL brand. If that’s the case, we could be in for some more major changes to the camera hardware that Samsung has been using for generations now.

According to recent filings, Samsung has applied for the DeepPix trademark in Argentina, Europe and the US. The documentation describes DeepPix as a CMOS image sensor, which actually confirms —it’s about «hardware» and not a software feature.

Samsung currently makes 36 different ISOCELL sensors. While the company’s flagship smartphones exhibit high quality shooting, Samsung does use the same sensors in multiple generations of devices. If a new architecture emerges under the DeepPix brand, it could be Samsung’s attempt to break out of its technological stagnation.

The situation is complicated by increasing competition. Sony recently introduced the LYT-901 — a large 1/1.12-inch sensor with 200 MP resolution and advanced QQBC pixel grouping technology. OmniVision announced a 1/1.1-inch 200MP OVB0D sensor with a high dynamic range of 108dB. Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi are expected to start using these sensors as early as 2026.

And it’s expected that Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi will start using these sensors as early as 2026.

In the meantime, Samsung is rumored to continue installing the same 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL sensor in the Galaxy S26 Ultra — a decision that management is said to have made in the name of cutting costs and maintaining profits. But given the rapid moves by competitors, Samsung needs to look ahead to stay ahead of the curve.

It’s too early to say exactly what DeepPix represents. The filings only confirm the registration of the sensor’s name, but don’t reveal technical details. It’s also unclear what devices it will appear in — smartphones, tablets, laptops or something else. Samsung often registers new brands long before products are released, so it could be a year or two before DeepPix actually appears.

For now, the DeepPix looks like the first serious hint that Samsung is preparing to go beyond the current capabilities of its cameras.
