Xiaomi launched the M40 smart door lock with innovative AI features
Xiaomi has officially released the M40 smart door lock and opened pre-orders in China. The device is priced at 3,299 yuan (roughly $464 USD) for first-time buyers. Last month, the company unveiled the more expensive M40 Pro model. The M40 retains most of the Pro version’s features, except for a few differences, such as the lack of palm vein recognition and a slightly smaller 4.94-inch touchscreen.
The M40 M40 is a smart lock that can be used to lock a door in the palm of your hand.
The M40 smart door lock is equipped with an AI system with two cameras: a wide-angle 3-megapixel camera with a 175-degree viewing angle and an additional 2-megapixel camera with a 128-degree viewing angle. The system supports panoramic view, video calling and real-time notifications. Xiaomi has equipped the lock with six infrared night vision lights and added several night modes for improved visibility in low-light conditions.

The M40 model features a full automatic lock and a Class C straight-insert mechanical cylinder that remains operational even if the outer panel is damaged. In addition, the lock is equipped with a security chipset, encrypted communication protocols, and reinforced construction to protect against physical tampering and attempted break-ins.

The dimensions of the front panel are 431 x 98 x 46 mm, while the rear panel is approximately 421 mm. The weight of the device is 5.18 kg. Xiaomi uses a combination of metal and internal sensors to increase the durability and stability of the design in various environments.
The power system uses an 8,000mAh lithium battery and a set of four AA alkaline batteries for backup power. Both batteries have Type-C ports for emergency power. The lock also supports reverse wireless charging from compatible smartphones. The lithium battery provides up to 4.5 months of battery life, and the AA batteries provide up to six months of battery life.
Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and Wi-Fi 6 at 2.4GHz are available for connectivity. The lock is powered by Xiaomi HyperOS and supports remote control, instant alerts and video doorbell functions via the Mi Home app. The device can be controlled from smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and Xiaomi SU7 car systems. The lock also supports voice and video communication via WeChat.
Xiaomi claims that the M40 is capable of operating in a temperature range of -10°C to 55°C. The device supports 12 unlocking methods, including 3D face recognition with artificial intelligence, fingerprint recognition, NFC cards, digital passwords, and in-app control.
