Mercedes has revealed an electric motor with record power

Most recently, the Mercedes-Benz division known as YASA announced the creation of the most impressive electric motor in history. Engineers have refined their original design, and it is now capable of generating over 1,000 horsepower.

Mercedes plans to integrate this achievement into its upcoming car models.

This innovative motor delivers 59 kW per kg, equivalent to 79 hp per 1 kg. This far surpasses Yasa’s previous achievement (56 hp per kg). Weighing only 12.7 kg, the prototype produces a peak power output of 750 kW (1,006 hp). In comparison, this is comparable to the power output of hypercars, with the motor weighing less than a conventional electric bicycle. Even with continuous operation, the motor exhibits a stable power output in the 350-400 kW (469-604 hp) range.

The motor’s power output is also stable, ranging from 350-400 kW (469-604 hp).

It’s worth noting that no expensive or rare resources are used in the creation of this motor. Unlike conventional radial systems, the axial flow uses thin disk rotors that provide increased torque at a lower weight.

Technical director and founder of YASA, Tim Woolmer, described the result as “significant proof of the efficiency of the next-generation axial electric motor.” Mercedes, which bought YASA in 2021, plans to install these motors in future premium electric sedans and SUVs.
