Apple iPhone 15 will allow you to limit battery power

Apple’s iPhone 15 series has become official, and along with the new USB-C comes a new software feature. According to source code found in the iOS 17 beta released to developers, Apple may allow you to limit the maximum battery life on the new iPhones. It looks like the feature will only be available in the iPhone 15 series.

The feature itself is pretty simple — you limit the maximum charge to a certain percentage, which limits the battery’s time on a full charge, which should theoretically keep it working over time. Obviously, this comes at the expense of under-utilizing the battery and is only useful if you like to leave your phone on charge for long periods of time, such as overnight.
At the end of the day, you’re not going to be able to use your phone for long periods of time.

Originally, iOS displays a message on the lock screen stating that the iPhone will charge until fully charged, but when enabled, it warns that it will only charge to the maximum level.
It’s notable that this is different from Optimized Battery Charging, a feature on some Android phones that keeps charging at 80% and fills the remainder just before unplugging the phone, because it learns from your habits.
