According to this leak from China, however, the new Periscope will be an 85mm equivalent lens with an aperture of f/2.8 and a 1/1.9″ sensor. Thus, the zoom will be about 4x. Magnification to 5x or more will require the use of a digital zoom.
A digital zoom will be required.
Analysts speculate that Apple decided to make Periscope a Pro Max exclusive feature because of space constraints. The camera module in the 15 Pro Max will be noticeably larger than the 15 Pro and the previous generation Pro Max. Apple is expected to make the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max larger in 2024 — 6.3- and 6.9-inches, respectively — allowing the Periscope to be used in both models.
