AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 will get a translation feature too

Apple has unveiled the new AirPods Pro 3 and one of the major features of the update — Live Translation. This feature will not only be available to owners of the latest headphones, but also to users of AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4.
How Live Translation works
To turn on translation mode, all you have to do is tap the feet of both earbuds. The AirPods activate a feature that blocks out background noise and starts listening to the conversation. If the device recognizes foreign speech, the headphones immediately play the translation.
The feature is powered by Apple Intelligence and uses the same translation technology that’s implemented in Apple’s OS 26.
Language support
At launch, Live Translation will work with English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. Later this year, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese will be added to the list.
If both parties are using compatible AirPods, the translation will play in real time on each earpiece. If one person doesn’t have AirPods, they can see the translation as a text transcript on the iPhone screen.
Competition and Expectations
Similar features are already found in competitors’ headphones, but Apple is betting on integrating translation into its ecosystem. It’s not yet known how well translation will work in a real-world environment, but the idea of live communication without language barriers is extremely appealing.
