The iPhone 17 Air could get an A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM

According to the latest leaks, Apple’s ultra-thin flagship iPhone 17 Air could be more powerful than expected. According to information from Chinese insider Fixed Focus Digital, the device will be built on the A19 Pro chipset and will get 12GB of RAM.
If the rumor is confirmed, it would be a significant departure from the usual pattern: up until now, Apple has used the Pro version of the processor exclusively in the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models, while the base devices have been equipped with the regular version of the chips.
iPhone 17 Air could fall between the base and Pro lineup
A leak from the Weibo platform claims that the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup will feature the following configuration:
- iPhone 17 – A19 chip, 8GB RAM
- iPhone 17 Air – A19 Pro chip with 5-core GPU, 12GB RAM
- iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max – A19 Pro chip with 6-core GPU, 12 GB RAM
If the information is confirmed, the iPhone 17 Air will occupy an intermediate position between the standard and pro versions, offering users top-end performance without fully moving into the premium segment.
The leak is controversial, but not without logic
It was previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air could get the regular A19 chip, with the base model staying at the level of the A18 used in the iPhone 16. Now an insider indicates the opposite: only the regular ’17 will get the A19, while the Air and Pro lineup will get the A19 Pro.
Although Fixed Focus Digital has been wrong many times in the past, some of its predictions have come true. In addition, Apple has already used a similar strategy: the iPhone 16e has an A18 variant with a 4-core GPU, while the standard iPhone 16 got a 5-core version of the same chip.
This move fits in well with Apple’s current strategy and could be a response to competitors. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, for example, also got maxed out specs in a slim form factor.
