Pixel Camera 9.9 update: Google removes one feature and prepares another
By ForGeeks Google continues to roll out updates as part of June’s Feature Drop 2025. The latest update is a new version of the Pixel Camera app, numbered 9.9. However, users have already noticed not only the new features, but also the disappearance of one old one.
Social Share feature removed
The updated version of Pixel Camera 9.9 no longer has the Social Share feature – the item has disappeared from the settings. Previously, this feature allowed you to quickly send the last photo you took to one of the selected apps. To do this, you just had to swipe up on the round thumbnail of the photo. The user could choose up to three apps for quick sharing, with Quick Share remaining the fourth default option. WhatsApp, meanwhile, has been missing from the list of compatible apps for months.
It’s unclear at this point whether the removal of Social Share is a bug or a deliberate move, but everything points to the latter.
New: Education section not yet launched
Announced along with Feature Drop, the so-called «educational hub» is not yet available. It will probably be activated later with a server-side update.
Camera interface innovations
The updated version of the camera has a new question mark button in the top right corner of the screen. It now appears in all shooting modes, not just some. By tapping on the button, users can explore Google’s shooting tips. The section includes the following features:
- Add Me
- Panorama: create high quality panoramic images
- Astrophoto: observe the movement of stars in the night sky
- Night Sight
- Macro Focus: detailed capture of small objects and insects
Examples and instructions
The «Examples» section contains inspirational shots demonstrating the capabilities of each mode, complete with the photographer’s name. In the lower right corner is a button «Open Camera» that lets you quickly return to the viewfinder.
There’s also a «How to Use» section that explains in detail how to put each mode into practice.
