Demand for portable speakers and powerbanks in Russia has grown sharply
By ForGeeks Russians are buying portable electronics en masse on May holidays: sales of speakers and external batteries have jumped to record highs since the beginning of the year. Residents of megacities are especially active in buying the devices.
According to MTS analytics, from April 28 to May 4, 2025, sales of wireless speakers and powerbanks in the company’s retail network increased by an average of 25% compared to the first week of April. This is the best performance since the beginning of the year.
Speakers are booming: demand nearly doubled
The demand growth is connected with the beginning of May vacations, when millions of Russians go out of town or on trips. In the first week of May, sales of portable speakers increased by 80% in units and 36% in monetary terms. This is noticeably higher compared to both the beginning of April and the same period in 2024.
Interestingly, the average check for speakers fell 12%, indicating that affordable models are growing in popularity. Anker, Tronsmart, and Xiaomi were the top sellers in this segment.
Powerbanks: compact models in demand
External batteries are also showing great dynamics, with sales up 42% in units and 37% in total. The most popular devices are powerbanks with a capacity of 10,000 mAh. They accounted for about half of all models sold.
Where most people buy
The highest demand for portable electronics was recorded in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Kazan. These cities traditionally demonstrate high activity in the consumption of digital goods during the holiday periods.
