Gears of War comes to PlayStation for the first time – remaster of the classic awaits on August 26th

The iconic Gears of War series, which has been an Xbox exclusive for nearly two decades, is taking a big step toward new platforms this year. The remaster of the first installment, Gears of War: Reloaded, will be released August 26 immediately on PS5, PC (via Steam and Xbox App) and Xbox Series X/S. This marks the first time in history that Gears of War is officially releasing on a PlayStation console.

What’s included in Gears of War: Reloaded

Gears of War: Reloaded is a reworked version of the original 2006 game. The update was worked on by The Coalition studio (an internal division of Xbox), in conjunction with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. The remaster includes:

  • all previously released content, including the bonus act in the campaign and multiplayer;
  • improved graphics in 4K with support for HDRDolby Vision and Dolby Atmos
  • 60 fps in single-player campaign and up to 120 fps in multiplayer
  • crossplay between all platforms and cross-progress with a Microsoft account;
  • support for network co-op and split-screen on one screen

Of course, the release will also take place on Game Pass: subscribers to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass will have access to the game from day one, including streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Free Update and Price

The game will be sold at $40 (prices in rubles have not been announced yet). An important bonus: those who previously purchased digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get upgrade to the remaster for free.

Gears of War goes beyond Xbox

The release of Reloaded on PlayStation marks another move by Microsoft to expand the audience for its franchises. Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves have previously made their way to the PS5, while Forza Horizon 5 is also being discussed in the context of multiplatforming.

What’s next?

Microsoft and The Coalition are already working on a new project – Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel to the main story. It’s being co-developed with People Can Fly (the creators of Outriders), but there’s no release date yet.
