Gmail on Android now has a single menu for unsubscribing from emails

The Gmail app got a built-in button for quickly unsubscribing from emails back last year, and now, according to 9to5Google, the Android version of the client has another useful innovation. The new interface lets you manage all of your newsletter subscriptions from one centralized menu, eliminating the need to manually search for the unsubscribe button in each individual email.

According to 9to5Google, the new “Manage Subscriptions” page has already started appearing to Android users. So far, the feature isn’t available on all devices – the author of the original post doesn’t have it displayed on any smartphone, for example. It’s also not yet available in the iOS version of Gmail or in the web interface, but the fact that it’s appearing on different builds of the app suggests that it’s a server-side activation rather than tied to an update to the program itself.

After the new menu appears, you can access it through the Gmail sidebar, just below the Trash item. The section displays a list of newsletters that you can unsubscribe from with just a couple taps. It also shows how many messages you’ve received from each sender recently. There’s a warning in the interface that says, “After unsubscribing, it may take several days before the sender stops sending,” which is standard practice for such features.
