Russia wants to designate unreliable companies that have leaked personal data

In Russia, an idea has emerged to use a special “unreliable operator” label for the websites of companies that have leaked customers’ personal data. Such incidents of leaks have become more frequent in recent years. Boris Chernyshov, deputy chairman of the State Duma, sent the proposed idea in a letter to the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media.
The idea is that a special sign will help users of Internet sites, when working with a company’s site, to immediately understand whether they should trust it or not. This will especially help minors and the elderly, who are considered particularly vulnerable, and will also make personal data operators and companies pay more attention to protecting their personal data.
So that’s why it’s a good idea to use a special sign to help internet users understand whether they can trust a company’s website.

Deputy Chairman Boris Chernyshov (LDPR faction) noted that personal data leaks happen not only to small companies, but also to large companies, which include businesses and services for delivery of goods, food and parcels, medical organizations, online stores, educational organizations, representatives of the telecom industry and others. More recently, a similar story happened in Russia with the e-audiobook service LITRES.
