TweetDeck is now called XPro

TweetDeck has begun to show signs that Twitter’s sweeping rebranding won’t go unnoticed. If you look at the program’s page after logging out, you can see «XPro» in the top left corner of the site, indicating its new name. However, that’s pretty much it for now – the page still shows the Twitter logo in the shape of a bird, and TweetDeck is still called «a powerful real-time tool for people who live on Twitter». And yes, its URL is still tweetdeck.twitter.com, just like Twitter’s URL (sorry, we mean X) is twitter.com.

And it’s still tweetdeck.twitter.com.

The rebranding of Twitter to «X» happened literally overnight in July, with Ilon Musk announcing it in a tweet and then reportedly sending out an email to his employees. The social network then began making changes, replacing the Twitter bird with an «X» logo that will apparently «evolve over time» and renaming tweets as «posts» and retweets as «reposts». By the end of July, Google and Apple had listed the social network’s app «X» on the Play Store and App Store, respectively.

The move, while unexpected, may not have come as a surprise to those who have followed Musk’s career over the years. Musk is known as a brand advocate «X» and prior to his ouster as CEO, he wanted to rename PayPal to X.com. The executive also renamed Twitter’s parent company X Corp. He said the social network’s new name would help it expand its reach and become «an app for everything» with payments and banking features. But critics question the success of the rebranding, with some calling it «the dumbest thing [Musk] has done since taking office» and one that now makes the company less recognizable and less valuable.

The rebranding is not a good idea.

Despite the criticism, Twitter’s brand erasure is well underway. TweetDeck won’t stay TweetDeck for long, and it won’t be free in the near future either. The company previously noted that it will be closed behind a pay wall and will be available exclusively to Blue subscribers.
