Honda is auctioning off parts of Formula One racing relics

Fans can buy a piece of Formula One history and more — Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has decided to part with a piece of its legendary heritage, announcing the launch of an auction of historic racing parts. Among the lots are parts of the RA100E V10 engine, which in 1990 brought the McLaren Honda team to victory in the constructors’ and drivers’ championships (thanks to Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger). But this is just the beginning: the company plans to regularly sell rarities from its archives, including MotoGP motorcycles and IndyCar machines.

What can I buy?

First up for auction will be components of the legendary V10: camshaft sockets, camshafts, pistons and connecting rods. Each lot will be complemented by a certificate of authenticity and a stylish display case. The auction starts in August at Monterey Car Week, an event for elite car collectors. Given the status of the event, prices promise to be astronomical. For example, tickets to the summit in Pebble Beach can cost $1000, and for historical details will unfold a real battle.

Why does Honda need this?

“We want the fans to be part of our history,” said HRC president Koji Watanabe. This is not a one-off event, but a long-term project. Honda has dozens of unique cars and parts in its archives that have been sitting in storage for years. Now they will be appreciated by collectors, and the company will receive additional income and strengthen the connection with fans.

Why is it important?

Selling historic parts is a trend among auto giants. Ferrari and Mercedes have long monetized their heritage, while Honda is just joining the club. For fans, it’s a chance to touch legends; for the company, it’s a way to remind them of their victories in an era of electric cars and environmental regulations.
