BMW has revealed the M2 Dakar and M3 Touring GT3 Evo – and it’s the cruelest April Fool’s prank yet

The Bavarian auto giant decided to play on the weaknesses of car enthusiasts on Fool’s Day – and it was too convincing. BMW unveiled renderings of two supposedly new models – the M2 Dakar off-road coupe and the M3 Touring GT3 Evo track station wagon – which, as it turns out, only exist in pictures. The internet fell in love – and then was disappointed.

The exterior of the M2 Dakar looks like it came from an advertising campaign for a real off-road monster:  a raised suspension, widened arches, massive bumpers with improved entry and exit angles, mud tires, underbody protection and even a roof rack with spare tire and additional lighting.
