Sony is preparing to release the Xperia 10 VII, which will be a major update to the Xperia 10 lineup. According to a leak from a reliable insider from the Esato forum, the new device will finally get a 120-Hertz OLED display, something that hasn’t been seen in any model in the series before.

According to the leak, the new device will finally get a 120-Hertz OLED display.

The predecessor Xperia 10 VI, introduced in May 2024, features an OLED panel with a refresh rate of just 60Hz, while the sensor response reaches 120Hz. With the new model, the company has decided to fix this limitation by adding full 120Hz for smoother animation and scrolling.

When it comes to performance, the Xperia 10 VII is likely to get Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 instead of the expected Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. This processor was announced in June 2024, and according to Qualcomm, it delivers 15% faster CPU performance and improved AI capabilities. Using Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 instead of the newer chip will help Sony keep the cost of the device at €399 ($430) – the price the Xperia 10 VI cost at launch.

Sony’s smartphone sales will drop by 40% from 2020 to 2023, according to Counterpoint Research. The company is betting on improving the mid-range segment to retain existing users and attract buyers who value compactness and multimedia capabilities. No official release date has been confirmed yet, but if we focus on the launch of the Xperia 10 VI, the new product could come out in May 2025.

An official release date has not been confirmed yet.

Sony is simultaneously developing 100- and 200-megapixel sensors for smartphones. According to Digital Chat Station100 MP sensor will become popular among Chinese manufacturers, launching in flagships based on the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500. And the 200 MP sensor, which is rumored to be larger than Samsung’s counterparts, could possibly appear in one of Sony’s future smartphones.
