Apple is working on two new versions of the Studio Display

Apple is reportedly working on two new Studio Display models to revamp its external monitor series. The information comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest newsletter to subscribers. The current version of the Studio Display, introduced in 2022 alongside the original Mac Studio, has a sturdy design but is no longer up to today’s standards in terms of functionality. Apple now appears to be aiming to improve on that aspect with new releases, offering users a better connectivity experience with the new Mac Studio.
Apple is now looking to improve on that aspect with new releases.
The first model, codenamed J427 — is rumored to be the second-generation Studio Display, and is expected to debut as early as late 2025 or early 2026. The specs of this model are still a mystery, but it’s clear that Apple intends to take a significant step up from the current 27-inch 5K variant.

As for the second model, codenamed J527, things look even more intriguing here. Gurman suggests that this isn’t just a further development of the J427, given the short time between their development. Perhaps Apple is testing two designs and will pick one to launch, or the J527 will be a standalone variant, perhaps with a different screen size or functionality. That raises the possibility of an update to the outdated Pro Display XDR, a 32-inch 6K monitor that hasn’t gotten an update since 2019.
The J527 is the most likely to be updated.

Details such as pricing, display technologies, and exact release dates remain unknown at this point. Apple’s line of monitors has long been an important accessory for Mac users, and the new models underscore the company’s commitment to staying competitive in the market.
