Nokia introduces the world’s first 5G 8K 360° camera

Nokia has unveiled its 5G 360 Camera, supported by its proprietary Real-time eXtended Reality Multimedia (RXRM) software, which has won three iF Design awards. The camera is the “world’s first” 8K and 5G-enabled model that combines high-resolution, low-latency 360-degree video streaming with OZO 3D spatial audio.

Environmental Resilience
Nokia positions its 5G 360 Camera Extreme Temperature as a device designed for harsh environments. The camera is IP67-rated and has robust data privacy features, making it ideal for mission-critical industrial applications.
The camera is designed to withstand the rigors of a harsh environment.
The key to the camera’s functionality is the RXRM software, which supports real-time remote operations. It enables monitoring, inspection and control of industrial equipment. In addition, the RXRM API allows 360-degree video and 3D OZO Audio to be integrated into artificial intelligence platforms for analytics and augmented reality applications.
According to Sami Ranta, General Manager of RXRM at Nokia, “Nokia RXRM helps industrial customers optimize their business processes by reducing support and field costs. The introduction of 5G 360 camera in RXRM offers a complete solution for real-time remote operations such as situational awareness, monitoring, tele-governance and stadium-level events.”
RXRM has already demonstrated its effectiveness by improving the safety and productivity of industrial processes by providing valuable real-time analytics.
One of the first implementations of RXRM technology was by Finnish company Callio Pyhäjärvi at Europe’s deepest mine in Pyhäsalmi. The mine, now functioning as a multi-disciplinary site for research, training and remote operations, demonstrated that the 5G 360 camera’s ability to broadcast video and audio over private and public wireless networks is critical for high-risk industries. This dramatically improves operational efficiency, reduces risk and enables reliable remote management.
“Previously, existing cameras were not up to the challenges presented by the harsh mining environment at Callio Business Park,” said Sakari Nokela, Director of Development at Callio Pyhäjärvi. “With the reliability and safety of proven products from Nokia, this camera successfully fills a critical gap in the market.”
According to Nokia, this camera is the perfect solution to fill a critical gap in the market.
The Nokia 5G 360 camera outperforms many business webcams by delivering ultra-high 8K video (supporting the best 5K and 8K monitors) with near-zero latency and spatial audio over 5G, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet connections.
