Samsung unveils Galaxy M34 with 50MP camera

Samsung introduced the Galaxy M34, which costs less than the Galaxy A34 (and A54) announced in March. Despite this, it gets better Android support — 4 OS updates and 5 years of security patches.

Galaxy M34 —s update from last year’s M33 model in several ways. First, the upgrade schedule, usually reserved for the S/A series. Secondly, the cameras — the main 50 MP module got OIS, while the ultra-wide-angle camera was updated to an 8 MP sensor (compared to 5 MP) and the selfie camera was increased to 13 MP (compared to 8 MP).

The new model features a 120Hz Super AMOLED, 6.5-inch panel with a slightly higher aspect ratio —1080×2400 for 20:9 compared to 19.5:9 for the 6.6-inch M33 LCD. Gorilla Glass 5 scratch-resistant glass and Always On Display.

Some things, however, remain unchanged — the Galaxy M34 is still powered by Exynos 1280. RAM and storage options remain the same, and there’s virtual RAM and a microSD slot for more storage.

The battery remains the same, and that’s a good thing — 6,000 mAh. Charging is at 25W (wired only), but only Samsung’s flagship goes above that figure.
The Samsung is the only one with the battery.

It’s also worth making a little comparison with the Galaxy A34. The A-series phone is on the same excellent path of software updates and features a slightly more powerful Dimensity 1080 with a similar memory configuration (there is a 256GB option, though).

The 6.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate is slightly larger, but the 5000 mAh (25W) battery is smaller. And the cameras on the two devices are very comparable. One of the A34’s key advantages is its IP67 dust and water resistance rating — both phones have plastic bodies, but the A-phone is a bit more rugged.
