MWC 2025: conference attendees divided on the impact of AI

Two opposing views on artificial intelligence (AI) were presented at Mobile World Congress 2025. One was presented by Ray Kurzweil, a futurist and researcher at Google who believes in a future where AI will be a catalyst for change, and the other by Scott Galloway, an author and investor who warns against the possible dangers of AI.

Positive View: AI as a catalyst for progress

Ray Kurzweil emphasized that AI can significantly improve human life by extending the lifespan and capabilities of people. He predicted that artificial intelligence will impact fields such as medicine and energy. Kurzweil noted that AI is already bringing significant improvements in areas such as health care and will catalyze huge changes in all aspects of life in the future.

One of the key aspects Kurzweil focused on is AI’s ability to optimize renewable energy projects. He predicted that solar energy and other technologies will come to the forefront over the next decade with I-optimized projects and new components, creating a new era in energy

Pessimistic view: AI as a threat to society

In contrast to Kurzweil, Scott Galloway, an author and professor, said AI is unlikely to bring only good. He noted that algorithms created for platforms such as social media often operate on the basis of inciting anger and creating social polarization. Galloway argues that AI increases isolation and anti-social attitudes, especially among young men, which contributes to a loneliness crisis in society.

Galloway expressed frustration that tech tycoons are not condemning democratic abuses in the US, such as tax breaks for the rich, including Ilon Musk himself. He says the techno-elite is not actively involved in supporting democratic values, which only exacerbates the problem.

The Future of AI: Prospects and Threats

The future of artificial intelligence is still controversial. While one camp believes in its ability to transform the world, the other warns of possible negative effects on society. The question remains: will AI do more good or harm to mankind?”
