Microsoft expects Sony to release the PS5 Slim console this year

Documents published as part of Microsoft’s litigation with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission have appeared online. They indicate that the company expects Sony to release the PS5 Slim console later this year. It will cost the same as the PS5 Digital Edition. That is, $100 cheaper than the standard PS5.

PlayStation is also selling a less expensive version of the Digital Edition for $399.99, and it is expected to release the PlayStation 5 Slim later this year for the same price, Microsoft said.

The Xbox maker also said it believes Sony is gearing up for a PS5 Pro console.

Sony currently offers two different versions of the PlayStation 5 — one with a Blu-ray player for physical media (standard) and one without (digital). Additional differentiated Pro and Slim models are expected to be released in the near future.

Microsoft’s announcements are converging with price action on the PS5 in Europe. Despite achieving record sales, the console has not sold well in some countries, including the UK, Spain, Portugal and France. This has led to speculation that Sony may sell out of old stock before introducing a new model.
