New tool in Google Photos speeds up image editing before sending

Google Photos is constantly improving its editing tools, including Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, and other AI-powered features. However, most users don’t always need sophisticated editing tools, especially if they just want to crop or slightly enhance an image before sending it. Google Photos is testing a Quick Edit feature to simplify the process.

Quick Edit: How it works

.

The Quick Edit feature gives you instant access to two of the most popular editing tools: cropping and enhancing. These tools are available on the photo submission screen, speeding up the editing process.

  • Crop: This tool includes options for rotating, mirroring, and changing perspective. The interface is identical to what is already used in the main Google Photos editor.
  • Improve: Using artificial intelligence, Google Photos improves image parameters such as color, contrast, and lighting to make the photo more appealing.

.

After making changes, the user needs to click on the “Share” button to choose how to share the photo.

Availability of the Quick Edit feature

So far, the feature has been spotted by one user on a Pixel 6 Pro with version 7.10.0 of the Google Photos app. However, despite having the newer version of the app on other devices, the Quick Edit feature is not yet available. This indicates a gradual rollout of the tool via a server-side update limited to a certain set of users.

Here’s a sign of things to come.

Why Quick Edit?

The Quick Edit feature is useful for those who frequently share photos and want to save time on simple improvements. While most messengers and social networks already offer basic editing tools, integrating quick edits directly into Google Photos makes the process easier and faster.
