MediaTek Dimensity 8400: first details

In addition, MediaTek plans to release a mid-premium processor, the Dimensity 8400, by the end of this year.

According to information published by a well-known insider Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Dimensity 8400 will use the 4nm manufacturing process from TSMC, just like its predecessor. A feature of the new product may be an architecture with «fully large cores», which means the use of exceptionally high-performance cores. It’s an approach MediaTek first introduced in the Dimensity 9300, then used in the Dimensity 9400, and a similar architecture has also been announced for Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship.

The main core in the Dimensity 8400 will be the new ARM Cortex-A725, according to an insider. The new chipset is expected to achieve 1.7-1.8 million points in the AnTuTu test, which surpasses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with its score of around 1.6 million points and comes close to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 results (around 2 million points).

Although MediaTek has yet to announce an exact launch date for the Dimensity 8400, the model number of the new chip – MT6899 – was recently revealed in Xiaomi’s HyperOS code. This could indicate that Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco are developing a device with this processor.
