From adventure RPGs to puzzlers and platformers, we’ve compiled a list of titles that will be a great choice for those who prefer to enjoy gameplay alone.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition — the best RPG for Nintendo Switch
.
Let’s start with a game that wasn’t originally intended for Nintendo Switch. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt first released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015 and has become one of the most beloved RPGs of all time thanks to its beautiful open world, interesting characters and story, and huge number of quests. In 2019, CD Projekt Red has partnered with Saber Interactive and Nintendo to release The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition on Switch, and it’s a great achievement.

This Nintendo Switch version includes all of the previously released DLC and expansions, including Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which can be played on the go or on your TV. Sure, it doesn’t look and run as well on Switch as it does on other platforms, but seeing such a graphically rich game on a handheld device — a miracle. It’s a great RPG to dive into, with over 150 hours of content.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
It’s a game accessible to players of all skill levels — even those who have never touched a controller in their lives. And it offered the opportunity to explore tropical islands at a time when traveling was impossible. Its social aspects cannot be ignored either. Being able to socialize with other real players is still immensely satisfying. But of course, you can still enjoy New Horizons by playing it solo on Nintendo Switch, and for that it deserves a spot on this list.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
The tactical RPG genre isn’t the most popular in the world, but it has a devoted audience that buys just about everything it has to offer. One of the most popular JRPGs that falls into this category is — Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which utilizes classic grid-based mechanics, but this time it features three different houses to choose from (hence the name), each of which is part of a school.
Fire Emblem.

These houses are home to different characters and stories, so there’s plenty to do if you want to see everything the game has to offer. There’s a lot to like about this game: it’s one of the most accessible in the Fire Emblem series, offering different difficulties and modes for all levels. The game also features a social aspect, much like the Persona series: you can “socialize” with your friends to make them more effective in battle. It’s another single-player adventure that you could potentially spend hundreds of hours in.
It’s also a great way to play the game.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Switch
It’s probably not necessary to tell you too much about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It’s a classic RPG that’s been released on all modern platforms, including Nintendo Switch. Skyrim can be as deep as you want it to be, with plenty of options for every play style — from stealth to long-range magic user and, of course, traditional melee combat.

This version has everything from the Special Edition, including the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn add-ons. The Nintendo Switch version also has some Zelda-related mod items, such as the Master Sword, Hylian’s Shield, and Link’s tunic. You can also use the motion controls on Switch in this version, which is fun.

Super Mario Odyssey
This is a game that takes some risks, expanding on the tried and true Super Mario formula, making it one of the freshest games in the series. Odyssey features large open levels with different themes, offering a ton of variety not only aesthetically but also gameplay-wise. In these levels, you’ll have a variety of secrets to unlock, many of which vary in difficulty. One of the new features in this Nintendo Switch game — Cappy’s hat, which you can throw to “possess” many of the creatures you will encounter, including a T-rex! This game is — pure joy.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
There’s a game most people didn’t expect to love on Nintendo Switch. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle — is a turn-based tactical game in the same vein as XCOM. In it you can play as familiar characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, such as Mario, Peach or Yoshi, as well as their doppelgangers — rabbits. Each character has unique abilities that you can use to solve different challenges.

As you progress through the levels, you gain XP that can be turned into new abilities and gear. It’s a complex game in terms of multiple systems and it’s sure to shock many players with its high quality, especially considering it wasn’t actually made by Nintendo.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening — is a remake of the 1993 Game Boy game of the same name for the Nintendo Switch, and it’s one of the best in the series. Part of what makes the remake good is that it retains the integrity of the original, but adds many modern touches that make it playable today. The most noticeable difference — is the chibi art style. But above all, this game is mesmerizing.

This is one of the strangest Zelda games ever, featuring a number of bizarre and dark themes. At first glance, it’s a regular Zelda adventure, and it uses that to its advantage to entice. Like most Zelda games, Link’s Awakening is packed with wonderful characters, challenging dungeons, amusing dialog, and enjoyable gameplay.
