After months of rumors and leaks, Sony has finally announced the PlayStation 5 Pro — a premium console for those gamers who want the best graphics (with a premium corresponding price, of course).

In contrast to the base PS5, the Pro costs a lot more: $700. It’ll be released ahead of the holiday season on November 7, 2024.

The PS5 will be released on November 7, 2024.

The PS5’s lead architect, Mark Cerny, unveiled the console during a technical presentation, stating that the main goal of the PS5 Pro is to reduce the need to choose between performance and quality modes. That is, now you won’t have to put yourself in the position of having to choose. Just sit down and play your favorite games!

Like Sony’s PS4 Pro, which offered a more powerful GPU and other hardware to support higher resolution graphics, the PS5 Pro offers mostly technical specs for players who want to maximize graphical fidelity, with a more powerful GPU that will run 45% faster. The main addition — PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which uses machine learning to achieve higher frame rates, similar to Nvidia DLSS or AMD FSR. It also improves ray tracing, so you should expect more realistic lighting in video games that support it.

PSSR will also improve ray tracing, so you should expect more realistic lighting in video games that support it.

At the end of the day, none of this is a huge improvement, but games should become smoother. Among the games shown at the presentation are —Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and many more.
