Samsung introduces new microSD Pro Plus and Evo Plus memory cards with capacities up to 1TB

Remember microSD cards? While it’s now rare to find a modern smartphone that supports them, devices such as drones, action cameras, and handheld consoles still rely on them heavily.

Today, Samsung introduced new Pro Plus and Evo Plus microSD cards with capacities up to 1TB. They use a new 28nm controller that is more power efficient than the 55nm controllers used in older microSD cards. In addition, the new controller supports Low Density Parity Check error correction code, which improves the card’s durability during write and erase cycles. The improved performance is also attributed to the card’s use of 8th generation V-NAND technology.

The new Samsung Pro Plus cards are pretty fast, promising sequential read speeds of up to 180MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 130MB/s. The Evo Plus cards are a bit slower, with read speeds of 160MB/s and write speeds of 120MB/s. The cards are rated A2 for app storage, U3 and V30 for general file storage and 4K video recording.

They come in several sizes: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The Evo Plus also has a 64GB version, but it’s much slower at 60MB/s read, 20MB/s write and only has A1/U1/V10 ratings. All cards come with a 10-year limited warranty.
