Auto.ru has conducted a survey which reveals that motorists most expect electronic assistants to improve comfort and safety. They also want help finding a free parking space and the fastest route.

Future technologies in cars: opinion of young Russians

Car drivers want modern technology to simplify driving with the help of “hints”, but at the same time the control of the car should remain in the hands of the driver. Among the most desirable technologies among the younger generation were systems for sharing data between vehicles and infrastructure. Of most interest are:

  • Transmission of road hazard warnings from other cars (55%).
  • Systems that dynamically adjust the route depending on traffic congestion (53%).
  • Information about available parking spaces (42%).
  • Alerts for vehicle maintenance and repairs (50%).

Willingness to share data and trust in autopilot

More than 40% of survey participants are willing to share information about their trips in exchange for lower insurance policy costs. Despite the high acceptance of e-assistants, only 15% of respondents are willing to fully trust autopilot to control their car.

All of these respondents are willing to share their travel information in exchange for lower insurance costs.

Car Buying Priorities

Young Russians are already actively choosing cars with various assistants:

  • Parktronics (42%).
  • Navigation system (36%).
  • Adaptive cruise control (22%).
  • Automatic emergency braking system (20%).
  • Internet connectivity (20%).

Trust in technology and plans for the future

Trust in electronic driving aids, such as anti-lock brakes and brake assist, is at an all-time high, with 82% confident in the reliability of these systems. The majority of motorists have a positive attitude towards controlling all vehicle functions via the display (60%).

Almost 70% of Russians plan to buy a car in the next two years: 40% will give preference to a new car, and 27% – to a car with mileage. The main reasons for replacing a car are a mismatch of needs (25%) and a change in lifestyle (15%). When choosing a new car, the respondents are focused on:

  • Reliability (68.5%).
  • Brand (46,5%).
  • Fuel consumption (36%).
  • Engine power (30%).

The survey, conducted among 1,230 motorists aged 18-45 across Russia in March 2024, found that young Russians are eager to increase driving comfort and safety with the help of modern technology, but prefer to keep control of their driving themselves.
