The new Mini Cooper JCW will take part in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race

The new generation Mini Cooper John Cooper Works will make its first appearance at this year’s «24 Hours of Nürburgring» race.
Since the new Mini Cooper EV debuted last September, we’ve been waiting to learn all about the next-generation John Cooper Works. Mini won’t fully unveil the hot-hatch until this fall, but we’ll get our first look at the camouflaged model during this year’s «24 Hours of Nürburgring».

Mini isn’t ready to provide details on what’s under the hood just yet, but it has confirmed that the John Cooper Works will be offered with both gas and all-electric powertrains. We don’t know how much power each version will have, but the Cooper SE makes 214 horsepower, and rumors indicate that the new electric JCW will make around 250 horsepower.

The new Cooper S, with its more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, makes slightly less power — 201 horsepower.
This is the car we’ll get in the U.S., and it’s also likely to be the gasoline-only JCW until Mini starts EV production in the U.K.. But that’s still two years away.

Mini will focus on balancing the weight and handling of the new JCW by using only one electric motor driving the front wheels. The higher power output will result in Mini equipping the model with a larger 54.2 kilowatt-hour battery pack.

The JCW’s custom-made camouflage — is a nod to the white-and-red color scheme used on classic Mini race cars in the 1960s. It bears the «37» logo in honor of the brand’s historic victory at the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally.

If the JCW is unveiled in late 2024, it will likely go on sale in 2025. Its price will start at around $40,000, depending on the powertrain. The «24 Hours of the Nürburgring» race starts June 1, and you’ll be able to see the new gas-powered JCW in action when it competes in the SP 3T category with privateer Bulldog Racing.
