The new BMW X3 will debut in June

Earlier this week, BMW unveiled a detailed preview of the fourth-generation X3. However, we’ll have to wait until June to find out all the details. The «G45» will be officially unveiled in about two months, and will go into production in August. A separate version of the luxury crossover is planned for China.

BMW BMW has confirmed it will sell a global X3 model in 2025 with gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. A new all-electric iX3 will arrive next year, but as a separate model on the Neue Klasse platform. The X3 with internal combustion engines will use a revised version of the time-honored CLAR architecture.

The M Performance variant will likely remain the top-of-the-line model, as there are rumors that BMW won’t make another X3 M with an inline six. That’s despite an internal codename «G97» floating around the Internet. Instead, the new iX3 is expected to be replaced by a full-fledged M later this decade. If you prefer gasoline engines, the X3 M50 will be at the top of the food chain, perhaps with a bit more power from the «B58» engine.

If efficiency matters to you, the plug-in hybrid X3 will get more range thanks to an updated battery pack. The electrified variant, which will likely carry the suffix «xDrive30e», won’t be available at the start of U.S. sales. That could change later on, however, depending on the popularity of the PHEV. As usual, the diesel X3 is not available in the US. The X3 20d xDrive is expected in Europe, the last bastion of oil producers. However, diesel cars are not popular in the Old Continent either, where they accounted for just 13.6% of new car sales in 2023. For the first time in Europe, EVs have overtaken diesels in sales. In the future, the X3 is expected to go through a life-cycle pulse when cars will be available from November 2028.
