OnePlus 12 won’t receive OS updates for seven years

At this point in time, only Samsung and Google can offer users software support for their flagships that lasts as long as seven years. OnePlus has long been pleasing branded device owners with a user-friendly UI and high performance for relatively little money. However, despite all the advantages, the company doesn’t have the seven-year support that potential competitors have. According to the head of OnePlus, releasing software updates for seven years is useless if the hardware can’t provide a proper user experience for the same period of time. This suggests that OnePlus 12 owners won’t get software updates for as long as owners of the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, or any Galaxy S24 model.

The flagship is known to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and has an impressive amount of RAM. There are suspicions that the device will become unusable after seven years. It is unknown whether this hardware will be able to provide a smooth user interface after receiving two or three major software updates, because with each new release of Android, the system receives a number of new resource-intensive features along with various cosmetic changes. These changes increase the load on the current generation hardware, which means that in the future, the smartphone won’t have enough power.
