BYD has announced the low-cost electric crossover Yuan Up

BYD has announced the imminent release of its new Yuan Up electric crossover. It is positioned as a compact and affordable vehicle and will be aimed at the mass market, reflecting the brand’s commitment to making environmentally friendly transportation accessible to a wide audience.

Yuan Up will be based on BYD’s new 3.0 e-platform and will have a wheelbase of 2.2 to 2.5 meters. Its length, width and height will be 4,310, 1,830 and 1,675 millimeters respectively. Under the hood will be installed an engine with two power options (70 or 130 kW), allowing to reach a maximum speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The estimated range will be about 400 kilometers.
The Yuan lineup, including the Plus and Pro models, has contributed significantly to BYD’s successful electric car sales. In December 2023 alone, they sold 41,681 units, up 41.44% from a year earlier. For the full year 2023, sales of the Yuan lineup totaled 428,580 vehicles, accounting for 14% of the company’s total electric car volume.
The Yuan Up is expected to hit the market in March, priced between $14,000 and $21,000 (Rmb1.3 million to Rmb1.9 million).
