Russians started actively buying subscriptions in domestic online movie theaters
By ForGeeks According to a study by analytical agency TelecomDaily, the number of paying users of Russian online movie theaters has reached a record high of 45.2 million by the end of 2023. Over the past six months, this figure has grown by more than 23%, namely from 26.7 million users. The report also contains statistics on specific services and viewer preferences.
Analysts believe that the main reason for the growth in the number of paid subscriptions to online movie theaters is the significant increase in original content in Russia and the much lower cost compared to foreign counterparts.
By the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, CinemaPoisk (25.1%), IVI (19.3%), Okko (12.8%), Wink (12.8%) and KiON (9.9%) had the highest number of paid subscribers. In total, these five services combine for about 80% of the total number of viewers.

In terms of user satisfaction, assessed on a five-point scale, most services received roughly the same results – from 4.18 to 4.41 points. The top spots went to Start (4.41), CinemaSearch (4.37), Premier (4.35), Okko (4.28), KiON (4.26), and IVI (4.26).
When choosing an online cinema, users are primarily focused on good picture and sound quality (52.6%), affordable subscription price (50.1%), minimal advertising (46.2%), the ability to watch content for free (38.2%) and a wide selection of new releases (37.5%).
