Velozzi has unveiled a hypercar in which the body is made of spider webs

Automaker Velozzi has unveiled a new hypercar featuring a unique construction based on spider silk. The material is remarkable for its high strength properties with minimal weight, surpassing steel, carbon fiber, titanium and Kevlar.

Researchers have managed to develop synthetic genes capable of producing a huge number of proteins used in different types of spider silk. Using genetically engineered plants such as alfalfa, they were able to isolate proteins from the leaves and use them to create fibers that were then added to other materials to increase their strength and impact resistance with minimal added mass.

The Velozzi hypercar will use a combination of spider silk and carbon fiber in the body and monocoque, ensuring optimal performance and structural strength. The dimensions of the car will be: length – 4590 mm, width – 2100 mm, height – 1170 mm, and weight – only 888 kg. An important component of the hypercar will be a V12 engine with 1,000 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and a six-speed transmission. Velozzi claims the car will be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 370 km/h.
