CES 2024: Sony unveiled MR headset with two 4K OLED microdisplays

Sony launched the PS VR2 for gaming in late 2022, and now at CES 2024 it has announced a mixed reality headset for work. It was created in collaboration with Siemens and is aimed at «spatial content creators». It can be used in a wide range of applications — from product design to movie production.
The headset can be used for a variety of applications.

The headset features two 1.3 type OLED microdisplays with 4K resolution and 96% DCI-P3 coverage. They’re powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor, which was announced last week. The system supports «split rendering», which spreads the computational load between the head-mounted display and the computers to achieve stable frame rates when rendering large 3D models. Sony promises that the headset will be able to deliver «realistic rendering of 3D object textures and human character facial expressions» in real time.

Space tracking is provided by six cameras and sensors that also provide end-to-end video, allowing the headset to blend virtual objects with the real world.
